Rev. Richard Ray
Cordell, 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Kitty
Askins Hospice Center.
He was
surrounded by his family, leaving for heaven to be with the Lord.
Pastor Cordell
was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 28, 1935 to the late Robert
Cordell and Mae Etheridge Cordell. He served his Lord in ministry for
over 54 years and had also served his country in the United States
Army. Pastor Cordell was a graduate of the Free Will Baptist College in
Nashville, Tennessee, where he received a Bachelor of
Science degree
in Pastoral Studies. His three pastorates included three states:
Indiana, Tennessee, and Alabama. After retiring in Guin, Alabama, Rev.
Cordell served for three years as the promotional director for the
Alabama Free Will Baptist State Association. He later came to Goldsboro
to serve as the Outreach Pastor for Faith Free Will Baptist Church. His
greatest joy in life was door-knocking, leading someone to the Lord and
asking people to come and visit the church.
A service to
celebrate the Christian life of Pastor Cordell will be held Monday,
August 1, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, where he
was a member. Rev. Dann Patrick will officiate. Interment will be held
