Mary Evelyn Knight age 83 of Detroit, AL died Monday, February 28, 2011 in the Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory, MS. Born to D.L. and Pearl E. Wood Brown on December 14, 1927 in Greenwood Springs, MS (Sipsey Fork Community). She attended Elementary School at Sipsey Fork and later attended Greenwood Springs. She was a member of the 1945 Graduating Class. She worked at a factory in Praire, MS during World War II that produced supplies for soldiers. She married E.D. “Shorty” Knight on February 24, 1951 in Gattman, MS. They lived in the W4esley chapel Community and she was a faithful member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. She loved to fry apple pies and make biscuits for the church sponsored horse shows. She worked for Glenn Manufacture in Detroit, AL and Amory, MS from 1953 – 2002. Afer retirement, she loved cooking cakes and pies for friends. She loved cooking Sunday lunch and enjoyed having flowers and talking with her friends on the phone. She is survived by her Husband, E.D. “Shorty” Knight of Detroit, AL, A Daughter, Beverly Knight Jackson of Sulligent, AL, 2 Grandchildren, Christopher Brian Jackson and Wendy Michelle Jackson both of Sulligent, AL, A Sister, Grace Elizabeth Brown Scott (Herbert) of Greenwood Springs, MS, A Brother, Willie Roy “Bill” (Jane) Brown of Greenwood Springs, MS, Sister In Law, Jean Brown of Alabaster, AL and a host of Nieces and Nephews. She was a special Grandmother to Misty Santana Taylor Hallmon, Cameron Wayne Taylor, Andrew Clay Taylor, Noah Lee Carter, Bree Alexandra Carter and Anna Katherine Rogers. Services held Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 2:00 pm from the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Bro. Ben Roundtree and Bro. Roger Redus officiating. Norwood Funeral Homes, Inc. of Sulligent, AL directing.
